This is an 8 week, online only class, that explores online research tools and methods. We will discuss: using search engines and constructing advanced internet searches; finding books and ebooks in online catalogs; constructing searches and analyzing our results in article databases; citations and academic ethics; and how these tools fit together in the research process to produce a complete picture of our topic. Your final project for the semester will be a research project on a topic that interests you.
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
(1) Apply suitable criteria to select and evaluate website resources.
(2) Differentiate among scholarly journals and popular magazines in an academic context.
(3)Demonstrate appropriate search strategies that yield the most useful results from the library’s subscription databases.
(4) Follow MLA guidelines for citing resources.
About a week before the semester begins, I will contact you via email with more information about the course and provide you with instructions for accessing our course website.
