The "One Book, One Campus" program is designed to foster student engagement by creating an interdisciplinary and integrated intellectual experience.

Schedule of Events

"I am Malala" schedule of events:

  • 29 August – While supplies last: “I Am Malala” book giveaway 

  • 20 October 2016: 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm - Film screening of “He Named Me Malala” – United Nations Panel Discussion – Location: Great Hall 

  • 27 October 2016: 4:00pm – 6:00pm – Film screening of “The Hunting Ground” – Panel Discussion - Location: Great Hall 

  • 21 – 30 October 2016: (Fri-Sat @8pm, Sun @2pm) - Play production – Tartuffe, Molière Location: Pierce College Dow Arena Theatre 

  • 01 November – 16 December 2016:  "Women Hold Up Half the Sky" exhibit - Location: Pierce College Art Gallery (during Art Gallery open hours) 

  • Throughout much of the world, women and girls are less likely than men and boys to obtain education, receive health care, or gain financial independence.   Many suffer abuse, violence, profound forms or discrimination and often have little control over decisions about their lives.   The Half the Sky exhibit speaks to the essential role of women in the world.  Solutions exist, and women are often at the heart of some of the most successful strategies.  We believe this exhibit will inspire our students to learn, give, share, identify and connect with these stories and become agents of change in their own communities, as well as advocate for women here on campus.  The exhibit will consists of informational panels and streaming videos  

  • 03 November 2016: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Pierce College Art Gallery Reception and Exhibit Opening with Pierce College Symphonic Quartet in attendance 

  • 17 November 2016: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm - Film screening of “A Path Appears” – Panel Discussion – Location: Great Hall 

  • 17 November 2016: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm - “Historically Themed Living Statues” event – Location: On the Mall 

  • November 2016: TBA – ‘F-1 Students Thanksgiving Dinner’ – Location: TBA 

  • 2-11 December 2016: (Fri-Sat @8pm, Sun @2pm) – Play production – Fences, August Wilson - Location: Pierce College Mainstage

Spring 2017 events 

  • 09 March 2017: 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Film screening of “The Hunting Ground” – Panel Discussion - Location: Great Hall 

  • 01 & 02 June 2017: 7:00pm  – Commissioned piece performed by “Pierce College Symphonic Concert Band” inspired by Malala Yousafzai: Celebrations of the Human Spirit) Location: Performance Arts Building 

    • There will be a pre-concert program with ‘living statues’ representing various countries, such as South Africa, China, Pakistan, and Armenia. These statues will give brief introduction that tie directly into each assigned musical piece, enhancing the audience experience.
