  1. Review your academic records with an LAPC counselor and/or a university representative. Follow an educational plan and develop a strategy.
  • Find out which general education pattern is appropriate for your campus and/or major choice. In general, the CSU general education pattern is preferred. However, IGETC may be a good alternative.
  • Take the “Golden Four” courses required for admissions early:
    Transferable Math, English Composition, Critical Thinking and Oral Communication.
  • Take courses for your major. Refer to www.assist.org.
  • If you took AP exams in high school, ask for a CSU evaluation of those scores.
    LACCD College evaluates AP scores differently than CSU campuses.
  1. Become aware of impaction at the CSU.
  2. Become aware of local area at the CSU.
  3. Inquire about the benefits of earning an Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T).
  4. Attend admissions and application workshops.
  5. Apply broadly to at least four campuses, especially if your first choice campus is impacted. List an alternate major if your first choice major is impacted.
