BYSTANDER INTERVENTION TRAINING TO STOP ANTI-ASIAN/AMERICAN AND XENOPHOBIC HARASSMENT
In response to the rise in Anti-Asian/American and xenophobic harassment, we at Hollaback! partnered with Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC to adapt our free bystander intervention training as well as offering a de-escalation training to meet this moment.

Several studies point to the connection between hateful rhetoric and increased hate-motivated actions, and advocates and experts point to the way former President Donald Trump spoke about the COVID-19 virus as a direct contributor to the increased crime. But under the new Biden administration, the hate incidents have continued, prompting leaders and advocates to actively call for coalition building, better incident tracking and increased education about AAPI communities.

Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning by Cathy Park Hong (2020)

Los Angeles vs. Hate
LA vs Hate is a community centered, artist driven campaign to support all residents of Los Angeles County. Led by the Human Relations Commission, the LA vs. Hate Campaign partners with community partners from every district of the county representing a diverse coalition of voices committed to ending hate.
The goals of the campaign are as follows:
> Address the normalization of hate and inspire people to stand up to it.
> Build understanding about what constitutes hate and how to report it.
> Use cultural strategy and art to connect with residents in an authentic and meaningful way.

By tracking and reporting hate, we can ensure that resources are allocated appropriately, that offenders can be held accountable, and that together, we can build respectful and resilient communities.

Toolkit from Chinatown Community for Equitable Development
Over the past few weeks, Chinatown became a hot publicity stunt for politicians. Following increased public attention on recent incidents of interpersonal violence towards Asian people, only now have they come out to our community. Where were they before?
Mayor Eric Garcetti “volunteering” 30 minutes at a long-awaited vaccine mobile clinic, Councilmember Gil Cedillo dropping off some meager care packages to seniors, and Supervisor Hilda Solis holding a food distribution day IS NOT ENOUGH.
Hate Report Form for LA County
Contacting 211 LA is free, confidential, and accessible in 140 languages. 211 LA is a public non-profit (501C-3) organization that contracts with the County of Los Angeles to provide county-wide Information and referral services, and deliver specialized hotline and service navigation resources for other public and private entities. 211 is not affiliated with law enforcement. If you would like to file a police report or pursue criminal charges, please contact your local police department or submit an anonymous report to LA Crime Stoppers.
Stop AAPI Hate
In response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University launched the Stop AAPI Hate reporting center on March 19, 2020. The center tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Our approach recognizes that in order to effectively address anti-Asian racism we must work to end all forms of structural racism leveled at Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.

What We Know About the Victims in the Atlanta Shootings, The New York Times, March 19, 2021
Eight people were killed at three massage businesses in Atlanta and nearby Cherokee County on March 16. The suspect in the shootings, Robert Aaron Long, has been charged with eight counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault. Six of the victims were of Asian descent, and two were white. Seven were women. The authorities have identified those killed in the attacks as Soon Chung Park, 74; Hyun Jung Grant, 51; Suncha Kim, 69; Yong Ae Yue, 63; Delaina Ashley Yaun, 33; Xiaojie Tan, 49; Daoyou Feng, 44; and Paul Andre Michels, 54. Elcias R. Hernandez-Ortiz, 30, was seriously injured.

Race, Rights, and the Asian American Experience by Angelo N. Ancheta (2006)
In the revised edition of this influential book, Ancheta also covers post-9/11 anti-Asian sentiment and racial profiling. He analyzes recent legal cases involving political empowerment, language rights, human trafficking, immigrant rights, and affirmative action in higher education-many of which move the country farther away from the ideals of racial justice.
