Anti-Racism: a Learning Guide

The Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion located at the District Office welcomes you to this section of the LACCD website.​ Our goal is to promote diversity and equal employment opportunity throughout the Los Angeles Community College District.

The following Framework for Racial Equity and Social Justice speaks to the values of our organization and directs specific action steps and commitments that will allow our colleges and District to set a cultural tone and to actively build antiracist organizational capacity and resilience, and move forward towards a more socially and racially-just academic community. The action steps are intended to complement, not supplant, specific activities and programs at the nine colleges, where some of this work has already begun.

The Pierce College Diversity Committee's mission is to promote understanding, awareness, and appreciation of equity and diversity throughout our community to faculty, staff, and students and to foster a ​​​positive campus climate.

The "One Book, One Campus" program is designed to foster student engagement by creating an interdisciplinary and integrated intellectual experience. Members of the Pierce community, including students, faculty, staff, and administrators, are encouraged to read a common book throughout the semester and to participate in campus-wide, thematically-integrated activities.

Umoja is a Kiswahili word meaning 'unity.' It is an academic learning community and resource dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of African American students and others. Umoja advances academic excellence, community building, and student leadership as its program goals. Students will enroll in a year-long program, where they will take linked classes by Umoja-trained professors.

The Brahma Pantry and Basic Needs Program provides students with access to food, ongoing motivational support and referrals to agencies that are designed to meet students’ basic needs i.e. physical, psychological/emotional and economic needs. Our goal is to alleviate stressors in order to help students be successful at the college and beyond!
